El grupo con el que compartía se enfrascó en una discusión beisbolera sobre si es deporte, pasatiempo o ambos, el juego de las bolas y los strikes; en la pobre defensa que mostraron los equipos nacionales a lo largo de la serie y el mal estado de los terrenos. Las razones son variadas y no hace falta el criterio «complaciente y orientador» de los comentaristas deportivos que muestran sus rostros en la televisión cubana para que los fanáticos, conocedores de las múltiples razones que pueden estar afectando a nuestros atletas, lancen sus opiniones sin censura cual ruedo de expertos.
Para no faltar a lo habitual, las voces masculinas fueron alzando su tono y me impedían tomar mi aqualung mental para abstraerme de ese apasionado barullo que me resultaba innecesario. Pero a pesar de las voces altisonantes, me sumergí «en apnea» en mis pensamientos e hice un paralelo con el popular videojuego Play Station, que un par de días antes había visto jugar al hijo de una amiga. Me preguntaba cuánto avanzará en unos años más y si continuarán enumerando las nuevas consolas de la saga que fabrica la marca Sony. Seguramente, la competitividad impedirá que llegue al número 52 de ese juego con el mismo nombre enumerado y el desarrollo tecnológico propiciará que se fabriquen cada vez mejores. Lo que no deseo es que eviten la posibilidad de colocarle una pastilla pirata para jugar con discos quemados e introducir hasta nuestra propia versión del MVP-Cuban Goverment League (forever). Particularmente no me imagino a unos viejecitos corriendo las bases una y otra vez en un partido sin fin. Yo apuesto por la sana, limpia y auténtica competencia donde se impongan la calidad y el que mejor lo haga durante los 9 innings de duración estándar. Después del out 27, no es legítimo ni ético valerse de argucias para evitar el letrero que anuncia el «Game over».
